Kathleen, 2023 (In Development)

Cocreators: Eoghan Carrick & Lauren Shannon Jones

Produced by: Once Off Productions

What’s theatre's role in revolution?

Kathleen is an adaptation of Gregory and Yeats’ 1902 text Kathleen Ni Houlihan. Historical context, Eurovision songs, personal reflection and the original 1902 text collide to challenge our national narrative and a shifting European context.

Kathleen explores masculinity and shame, generational apathy and atrocities done in the name of national identity. It's a product of what happens when a group of people are pushed to answer ‘what am I willing to die for?’.

Its development has been supported by the Arts Council of Ireland and the Pavilion Theatre Studio 2022.
